Gulfport, MS : 8-year-old boy dies in car-van crash on U.S. Highway 49 on Saturday night, September 24, 2016
Police in Gulfport say an 8-year-old boy has died following a car-van crash on U.S. Highway 49.
Sgt. Damon McDaniel said in a news release the van carrying five children collided with a car Saturday night.
McDaniel said the driver of the van turned in front of a car, causing the crash.
He says the collision caused the van to spin and overturn.
He says the driver and the five children were not wearing child restraints or seat belts.
McDaniel said the identity of the child has not yet been released by the Harrison County Coroner’s Office.
He says the driver of the van was unlicensed and was issued citations for no driver’s license, running a red light, no proof of insurance, seat belt violations, child restraint violations, possession of marijuana and DUI.
