Memphis, TN : Teen steals grandmother's keys, vehicle involved in hit-and-run on Saturday, 10th September 2016
A teenager stole the keys to her grandmother’s vehicle that was later involved in a hit-and-run crash.
Around 2 p.m. Saturday, Jonesboro police were called to the 100-block of Highland Drive where a woman claimed a man hit her vehicle in a parking lot and then continued to drive off.
She told police three black men were in the vehicle, claiming they were going through the parking lot at a “high rate of speed,” and then struck the back bumper.
Later in the day, an officer spotted the suspected vehicle at Garden Manor Apartments.
The driver took off quickly when the officer tried to stop them.
After police tried to follow the car at a safe distance, they lost the driver.
Shortly after, they found the car abandoned. Officers then went to vehicle owner’s home.
The report stated, a 57-year-old woman said her 15-year-old granddaughter stole the keys early in the morning.
Police arrested the teen whose name cannot be released.
She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and held for unauthorized use of a vehicle and probation violation.
An officer found the missing keys in the 300-block of N. Fisher Street.
