Los Lunas, N.M : One teenager injured after being struck by a stolen scooter ridden by another teen in Valencia County on Wednesday, February 17, 2016
One teenager is fighting for his life after being struck by a stolen scooter ridden by another teen in Valencia County.
Deputies said 17-year-old Daryan Lamance was skateboarding when the teen on the stolen Vespa slammed into him.
Relatives of Lamance told Action 7 News Thursday he is not doing well at all and has been on life support since Wednesday's crash.
"Everything happened so fast," friend Ruperto Ivanez said. "My friend didn't get out of the way in enough time. And before I could turn around and see what happened, they were both on the ground."
Valencia County sheriff's deputies said the driver of the Vespa was speeding and the scooter was stolen.
Friends said Lamance is the kind of person everyone wants to be around.
"He would always joke to make us happy. He was always there when you needed him," Ivanez said. "Stay strong brother, I love you and I'll always be here."
The Valencia County Sheriff's Office said the driver was also hurt in the crash but is expected to be OK. He has yet to be charged, but that could change as the investigation proceeds.
