Police say a woman has died in a crash after driving the wrong way down Interstate 94 in suburban Detroit.

The crash was reported around midnight Thursday along the eastbound lanes in Harper Woods. State police Lt. Mike Shaw tells WWJ-AM that the woman was heading westbound when she collided with a vehicle that was heading the correct direction.

The station reports the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name wasn't immediately released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The freeway was closed for about three hours following the crash, but was back open Friday.
