Norfolk, VA : Moped rider dies in collision with Jeep Cherokee at Norfolk intersection on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016
A man died Thursday morning when his moped and a Jeep Cherokee collided at Ballentine Boulevard and East Princess Anne Road.
The moped was going west on East Princess Anne as the Cherokee was turning from that road onto Ballentine when they collided, police spokesman Daniel Hudson said.
The moped rider’s name will not be released until relatives have been notified. His body was to be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The moped and vehicle collided head-on with such force, Hudson said, that the victim’s helmet was knocked off his head. His shoes also were forced off his feet. The moped ended up underneath the Cherokee.
The driver of the Cherokee was not injured. Alcohol was not a factor for that driver, police said.
Police closed the intersection until about 10:30 a.m. while they investigated the crash. Investigators will turn over their findings to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
