Fort Smith, AR : Man killed in early morning crash near Van Buren on Wednesday, November 16th 2016
A car accident on Arkansas 59 left one man dead and another man in the hospital, according to the Arkansas State Police.
A pickup heading south on Arkansas 59 and another car, possibly a BMW, heading north collided near Gun Club Road, which is about halfway between Van Buren and Arkansas 22, according to Arkansas State Police Trooper Sgt. Eric Henson. ASP was notified of the incident via a phone call that came in at about 6:23 a.m.
"It was extremely foggy at the time," Henson said. "It was a head-on collision, and the male driver of the car was deceased at the scene. The male driver of the pickup was transported to Sparks (Regional Medical Center) in Fort Smith."
Henson said there was also a third vehicle involved in the incident, specifically a northbound pickup pulling a trailer that came along immediately after the collision.
"... The BMW had come to rest somewhat across both the lanes of traffic, and the pickup swerved to avoid it, but the trailer clipped the very back left corner of the BMW, doing minor damage to the car and the trailer, but the people in the pickup pulling the trailer were not injured in any way," Henson said. "That part of the accident was extremely minor."
The accident is still under investigation. No names were released in the report.
