Salem, OR : Community honors bicyclist killed in hit-and-run crash on Friday, 12th August, 2016
A memorial bike ride was held on Friday in honor of a 33-year-old man who was hit and killed on his bike last week in Oregon.Shelton Beryl, a father of one, with another child on the way, was training for a triathlon when he was hit and killed by 35-year-old Kevin Meister.
After a few requests, Zac Barnes, the central regional director of the Bike Federation of Wisconsin, said they decided to hold a memorial bike ride in honor of Berel and to help raise bike awareness.
"We ask people to slow down an give each other more respect on the roads, whether we're together drivers together as bikers, together as walkers," Barnes said.
Beryl's death marks the fifteenth bike fatality in the state this year.
