Nantucket, MA : A cyclist died afternoon after his bicycle collide in Polpis Bike Path crash on Saturday, 7th July 2018

A cyclist died Saturday afternoon after his bicycle collided with a vehicle at the intersection of the Polpis Bike Path and Barnard Valley Road, police said.

Stuart Finkelstein, 58, of Chappaqua, N.Y. and a summer resident of Madaket, was riding along the path across near Hoicks Hollow Road when a vehicle turned off Polpis Road onto Barnard Valley Road, crossing the path.

Nantucket deputy police chief Charles Gibson said Finkelstein was an avid cyclist and was believed to be traveling at a high rate of speed when he hit the rear quarter of the turning vehicle around 5 p.m. Saturday.

He suffered significant injuries to his head and face and was transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m., Gibson said.
