Franklin County, OH : 20-year-old dead, one injured after a single-car crash in Jefferson Township on Tuesday night, August 30, 2016
One person was killed, and another was taken to a hospital after a single-car crash in Jefferson Township.
It happened just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday night in the 2100 block of Liberty-Ellerton Road.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old man died in the crash, while a 19-year-old man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the 19-year-old was driving a 1991 Honda Civic, with the 20-year-old riding in the front passenger seat.
The car was going south on Liberty-Ellerton Road, when investigators say the driver lost control coming out of a curve. The Honda went left of center, ran off the east of the road and went through a small wooded area before striking a tree. The car came to a stop in an open field.
The driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Honda matches the description of a car which a deputy sheriff had observed traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of South Union Road and Dayton-Liberty Road a short time before crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Services Unit of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
