Pocatello, ID : Two weekend crashes on I-15 involved alcohol on Wednesday, February 15th 2017
Idaho State police say they responded to two crashes involving alcohol on Interstate 15 over the weekend.
The first incident occurred north of the Broadway exit in the Idaho Falls area on Friday afternoon.
Police say Malad resident Jeffrey D. Larson, 51, was driving north in a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup when he drove off the left shoulder of the road.
He then traveled through the median and struck the southbound guardrail. The vehicle also hit a light pole, knocking it over, before coming to a stop in the median.
Larson was not injured in the incident.
He has been charged with misdemeanors for excessive driving under the influence and consuming or possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, according to Bonneville County Magistrate Court records. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The second alcohol-related incident occurred south of Blackfoot.
Police say Fort Hall resident Gaven Cerino, 23, was driving north in a 2007 Ford Fusion when he went off the left shoulder of the road, struck a guardrail and continued into the median. The vehicle overturned at that point.
Cerino was transported to Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot after the crash. Officials there say he was treated and released.
Cerino is facing misdemeanor charges for a second offense of driving under the influence, failing to give immediate notice of an accident, and consuming or possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, according to Bingham County Magistrate Court records.
He also faces infractions for failing to provide proof of insurance and failing to use a vehicle safety restraint.
Cerino has pleaded not guilty to all of the misdemeanors and infractions, according to court records.
