Laconia, N.H : Laconia man charged with DUI after crashing into utility pole near the Belmont town line on Sunday night, February 14, 2016

A Laconia man was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his Jeep into a utility pole Sunday night, according to authorities.

Police were called to Province Road near the Belmont town line shortly before 9:50 p.m.

The Jeep struck a utility pole, causing the wires to fall across the roadway.

Police said the driver, Stephen Azotea, 48, fled the scene but was found a short time later. He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and conduct after an accident.
