Oneonta, NY : Motorist dies in one-vehicle crash in the town of Kortright on Monday, May 16, 2016
An East Meredith man was declared dead at a hospital after being ejected from a pickup truck he was driving in the town of Kortright on Monday, state police at Oneonta said.
The reason for the crash and cause of death weren’t known late Monday night, according to troopers, who withheld the 58-year-old man’s identity pending notification of kin.
The crash happened on West Kortright Church Road at about 5:45 p.m. and was reported by a passing motorist, troopers said.
The pickup truck left the roadway for an unknown reason, hit a culvert and overturned, coming to land upright, troopers said, and an investigation revealed that the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
A Bloomville ambulance crew took the man to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, where authorities pronounced him dead, troopers said.
Also at the scene Monday, troopers said, were crews from East Meredith and Bloomville fire departments, Cooperstown Medical Transport and LifeNet.
