Lyon County, KS : Iowa woman killed in icy accident on Kansas Turnpike in Emporia on Tuesday morning, January 19, 2016
The woman who was killed when her car slid into a truck parked on the shoulder of the Kansas Turnpike late Tuesday morning has been identified as Kristina Masters of Ankeny, Iowa.
Masters, 36, was traveling south on the turnpike just before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when her 2010 Buick Lucerne began to slide on the icy pavement at Milepost 98, about a mile north of the Matfield Green service area, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority report.
As the rear wheels of the Lucerne skidded, the vehicle spun clockwise and the left side of the car slammed into the back of a Kansas Turnpike truck legally parked on the side of the road. A turnpike employee was assisting another driver whose vehicle had slid off the turnpike.
The turnpike employee was away from his truck and was not injured. Masters was taken to a hospital, where she died.
