Davenport,IA : Stolen SUV crashes into downtown bar in Davenport on April, Friday 6th 2018
As Tom Jasper of Iossi Construction Co. cut a piece of wood to help support the front of the heavily damaged Mary's on 2nd on the edge of downtown Davenport, he said it was fortunate the whole front of the old building didn't come down.
"You can see we're having to support the entire front facade," Jasper said late Friday afternoon, as he put his circular saw off to the side and looked at the wood he was cutting.
He then pointed to the many supports he and his colleagues, Lester Smith and Shawn Kelley, had to put up.
"They pulled the vehicle out at 6:30 this morning and we've been working on this since about 7:30," Smith said at about 5:30 p.m.
Davenport police were called to Mary's at 2:22 a.m. Friday after receiving a report that a vehicle had crashed into the building.
They found that an SUV that had been reported stolen a week ago had crashed through the front door of the bar at 832 W. 2nd St.
The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene before officers arrived.
No injuries were reported
