Columbia, MO : Five injured, Woman arrested after a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday at Providence Road and Stadium Boulevard, November 4, 2014
Columbia police arrested a 27-year-old Higbee woman after she allegedly crashed her car Tuesday afternoon while under the influence of synthetic marijuana, injuring herself and four others, including two children, Officer Latisha Stroer said.
Reisa M. Branstetter was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts of second-degree assault. She is being held at the Boone County Jail with bond set at $18,500.
Stroer said Branstetter was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Stadium Boulevard at a high rate of speed about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday when her silver Ford Explorer hit two other vehicles in the Providence Road intersection.
Branstetter had two unrelated children in her car, ages 2 and 5. Branstetter, the children and two people in the other cars, ages 22 and 35, were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Stroer said.
It wasn’t clear how many people were in each car.
Branstetter was arrested after she was released from the hospital. She admitted to smoking synthetic marijuana and falling asleep at the wheel, Stroer said, and police found a “marijuana smoking device” in her vehicle.
Missouri’s statute on second-degree assault includes a subsection for instances in which people are injured during intoxicated driving incidents.
