A New Hampshire man was airlifted to a Massachusetts hospital with serious injuries after a three-car crash in Pelham on Sunday.
Pelham police responded the intersection of Bridge Street and Old Bridge Street around 12:07 p.m. Sunday to investigate a report of a crash involving three vehicles.
According to Pelham police, a white Mitsubishi with a Massachusetts registration and four passengers was heading south on Bridge Street when it stopped at a red light at the intersection with Old Bridge Street, with a black BMW sedan with a New Hampshire registration and two passengers stopped directly behind it. While both vehicles were stopped waiting for the light to change to green, a white Ford van with a New Hampshire registration hit the black BMW sedan from behind, pushing it into the rear of the white Mitsubishi SUV.
Upon arrival, Pelham police reported seeing CPR being performed on one of the crash victims.
Pelham, Windham and Salem fire personnel responded to the scene to assist with medical aid. According to Pelham Police Sgt. Matthew Keenliside, seven occupants of the three vehicles involved in the crash were transported to Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, Mass., for further evaluation. The New Hampshire man driving the white Ford van was later airlifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries.
Salem and Windham police assisted at the scene with traffic control, and the New Hampshire State Police Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the accident.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional information, including the identity of those involved in the crash, was released Sunday night pending additional notifications.
Keenliside said Sunday night it was too early to determine if any charges would be filed in connection with the accident.
