Fort Walton Beach,FL : 4 hospitalized in wrong-way U.S. 98 head-on collision on December, Sunday 3rd 2017

Four people from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, suffered serious to critical injuries following a wrong-way head-on collision on U.S. 98 early Sunday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Kaitlyn Anne Williams, 20, of Fort Walton Beach, was driving a 1999 Lexus SUV east on U.S. 98 at 3:45 a.m. when the vehicle traveled onto the south shoulder and then shot back across the roadway, through the median and into the westbound lane of travel.

Two vehicles were able to swerve and avoid a collision just west of the Marler Bridge, but a third vehicle — a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Maranda Shantell Fenton, 25, of Hattiesburg — was hit head-on by the SUV, according to the release.

All four females in the Altima were from Hattiesburg and were transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. Fenton was listed in critical condition Sunday morning, while Krystal Donaldson, Deja Hulem and Lakeisha Wright (ages not reported) were hospitalized in serious condition.


FHP reported that Fenton and Donaldson were not wearing seat belts. Donaldson was partially ejected through the windshield following the collision.

Williams suffered minor injuries and was treated at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Alcohol test results for Williams are pending, as are charges, according to the release.
