An Eastpointe man, seen slumped over the steering wheel of his pickup before the truck crashed into a home in Eastpointe Tuesday, died about an hour after the crash, police said.

The crash took place about 11:45 p.m. at Nine Mile and Linwood, said Lt. Dave Ernatt, a spokesman for the Eastpointe Police Department.

Before the crash, other motorists saw the victim, 56, slumped over in his 2007 Ford F-150 in the middle of the roadway and turned around in an attempt to check on him, Ernatt said.

Before they could get there, the vehicle accelerated over a curb and into the side of a home. The pickup got about "halfway into" the home, Ernatt said.
