Alabaster, AL : Clanton man dead, 1 injured, 1 jailed after fiery crash on I-65 in Shelby County on Thursday night, August 4, 2016
A Clanton man was killed late Thursday night in a fiery three-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Shelby County.
Authorities on Friday night identified the fatality victim as Robert Alan Gentry. He was 43.
The crash happened at 11:50 p.m. on I-65 one mile south of Alabaster, said Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel. The driver of a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer was parked on the interstate shoulder when his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima. The Lancer was then hit again by a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, and then caught fire.
Gentry was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Sonata was injured and taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the Altima, 28-year-old Daniel Joseph Robinson of Calera was not injured. Daniel said the preliminary investigation indicates alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Shelby County Jail records show Robinson was booked into the jail early today on a DUI charge.
Daniel said the investigation is ongoing.
