La Mesa man killed in solo rollover crash
A La Mesa man was killed Sunday evening when the off-road vehicle he was driving in El Cajon flipped over and trapped him underneath, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, a white male in his mid-30s, was apparently transitioning his Polaris RZR utility vehicle from a dirt road to the asphalt roadway on Snow View Drive near Highway 80 when the vehicle overturned. The man was traveling alone and alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, said Sgt. Daniel Gilbert.
The man was not wearing a seatbelt and he was partially thrown from the vehicle. A nearby resident heard a loud noise and discovered the crash when he came to investigate about 20-30 minutes later. He called authorities at 6:25 p.m., who arrived to find the man had died from head injuries, Gilbert said.
The man's name has not been released while his family is notified.
