A 19-year-old woman died Friday night after rolling her car in Box Elder County.

Alexis McCashland, of Layton, was traveling south on Interstate 15 near mile marker 370 about 8 p.m. when she attempted to pass a car by getting in the left lane, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release. She went too far left, though, and hit the rumble strip. She overcorrected and swerved back to the right, the release states.

McCashland again swerved to the left, trying to regain control of her sedan, and struck the cable barrier in the median. The car turned over the median, rolled and landed on its wheels in the inside northbound lane, according to the release.

McCashland was wearing a seat belt, but she suffered internal injuries, the release states.
