Congerville, IL :Semi catches fire, traffic diverted on I-74 on Tuesday, July 14th 2015
Eastbound traffic on Interstate 74 has been slowed a mile east of the Mackinaw Dells rest area because of a semi fire. The Illinois State Police say the semi was hauling a refrigerated box trailer when it caught fire. The driver of the truck was able to safely pull onto the shoulder and exit before the truck became engulfed in flames. There were no injuries and the load the semi-truck was hauling was not hazardous or flammable material. At one point, smoke was visible from as far away as Morton. Both eastbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 74 had to be closed at mile post 116, police said. With the assistance of the Illinois Department of Transportation, the eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 are being diverted off at the Goodfield exit (mile post 112).Crews will reopen the interstate as soon as the clean-up is complete.
