MANSFIELD, OH : Semi crashes into school bus on I-71 and injuring 9 students on Thursday, December, 7th 2017
Nine students and a bus driver were taken to a hospital this afternoon after their school bus was rear-ended by a semi truck on I-71.The state Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on I-71, south of U.S. 30.
A Marysville school bus, driven by James Lemaster, 64, of Marysville,was carrying 45 high school students and three adults when it was rear-ended by a semi-tractor trailer driven by Jean Braeckel, 55, of Ontario, Canada, troopers said.
The bus driver and nine students were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said. The remaining students were to be transported from the scene by additional school buses.
Braeckel was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
The right lane of I-71 was temporarily closed for safety.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by Mifflin Township Fire and EMS and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
