Waterford, ME : Two local residents injured in truck crash at Sweden and Blackguard roads early Thursday morning, March 31, 2016

Two local residents were injured when their truck crashed into a tree at the intersection of Sweden and Blackguard roads early Thursday morning, police said.

Oxford County Deputy Jeffrey Huston said driver Darrin Farrington, 50, and passenger Shana Myers, 48, both of Waterford, were transported by Stoneham Rescue to Bridgton Hospital.

“They were traveling on Blackguard Road toward Sweden Road, entered the intersection of Sweden Road without stopping, and left the roadway, where they struck a tree,” Huston said.

Bear Pond Road also joins the intersection.

Huston said both occupants had to be extricated from the truck by members of the Waterford Fire Department.

The crash was reported at 12:06 a.m. Thursday by Myers, who suffered minor injuries in the accident, the deputy said. Her injuries were treated at Bridgton Hospital, where she was later released.

Farrington received significant injuries and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

“Evidence at the scene suggests that alcohol and drugs may have been a contributing factor to the accident,” Huston said.

Sweden Road was closed for more than two hours after the crash while the Oxford County Sheriff's Office and the Maine State Police investigated.

Huston said the accident remains under investigation.
