Pitcairn man dies in crash in Westmoreland County

A 22-year-old Pitcairn man died early Sunday after his car went through a stop sign at an intersection in Hempfield and slammed into an embankment.

Westmoreland County Coroner Kenenth A. Bacha identified the man as Brandon A. Turner, who lives on Highland Avenue in Pitcairn.

The crash occurred at 12:36 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of State Route 136 and Millersdale Road in Hempfield.

Mr. Bacha said in a news release that Mr. Turner was alone in a car traveling west on Route 136. He failed to stop at a sign at the intersection of Millersdale Road, and the car ran into an embankment on the other side of the road.

Mr. Bacha said the car was believed to have been speeding before the crash. Mr. Turner was pronounced dead at the scene of chest injuries.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. Mr. Turner was wearing a seat belt, the coroner's office said.

Arrangements are being handled by the William O. Pearce Funeral Home in Pitcairn.
