A 23-year-old Brocton woman was killed late Wednesday afternoon when she reportedly turned her sport utility vehicle into the path of a semitrailer.
An Illinois State Police press release reported that the collision occurred at 3:54 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Illinois Route 133 and Edgar County 600 East, east of Oakland.
State police reported that the SUV driven by Chelsie Lynn Gann, 23, of Brocton was stopped at the intersection as the westbound semitrailer, driven by Charles Buckley, 59, Arcola, was approaching this crossroad. A school bus traveling east on Route 133 turned north onto 600 East at this time. Gann then proceeded to turn east onto Route 133, directly into the path of the semitrailer.
The state police reported that Gann died at the scene. Two other motorists were transported from the crash scene to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the traffic crash, according to the press release.
According to the state police, Gann was not wearing her seat belt. One of her passengers, Dustin Watson, 31, Brocton, was wearing his seat belt and the other, a 2-year-old Brocton boy, was secured in a child restraint. The semi's driver was wearing his seat belt.
The semi was pulling a tanker trailer. No charges have been filed.
