Daytona Beach, FL : No one seriously injured after a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Volusia County on Thursday morning, Oct 29, 2015

A multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach on Thursday morning was caused by a school bus that could not stop in time when traffic in front of it slowed down, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said.

The school bus was privately owned and did not belong to the Volusia County School District, said Volusia County Fire Services Battalion Chief Nick Castelli.

FHP's Sgt Kim Montes said the bus was purchased by a car dealer and was being driven from Virginia to Florida to be exported overseas.

The crash in which the bus struck two vehicles occurred on I-95 near Interstate 4 at 9:08 a.m., authorities said.

According to FHP's Sgt. Kim Montes, the school bus, driven by Alfonso Guardado, 46, of Virginia, was southbound on I-95 behind two vehicles. When traffic slowed down because of a previous crash, Guardado was unable to slow down and struck the back of a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Gasaway, 53, of Jacksonville.

After striking Gasaway's car, the bus continued on the road and hit a second vehicle driven by Thomas Price, 87, of Port Orange. The bus then went through a guardrail and across the northbound lanes of I-95. No vehicles were struck in the northbound lanes, Montes said.

Price was not injured and both Guardado and Gasaway suffered minor injuries and were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Montes said.

Guardado was ticketed for careless driving and for not having a commercial driver's license, Montes said.
