A North Charleston man was killed in a crash along I-26 Wednesday, according to the coroner.
Anthony W. Carter, 77, died at Trident Regional Medical Center, Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said.
The pickup truck Carter was driving ran off the left side of the eastbound lanes of I-26 near mile marker 171 at approximately 1:07 p.m., Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said. Carter over-corrected and the truck then ran off the right side of the roadway, down and embankment and struck a tree, Southern said.
Carter, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was airlifted to Trident where he died.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Dorchester County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash, Brouthers said.
