Breinigsville, PA : Five people killed in fiery crash on state Route 222 on Wednesday afternoon, March 2, 2016
Breinigsville, Pennsylvania
Police in Pennsylvania say the five people killed in a fiery crash when their car slammed head-on into a tractor-trailer were colleagues commuting home from work.
Upper Macungie Township Police Chief Edgardo Colon says the sedan was heading north on state Route 222 on Wednesday afternoon when it crossed into the path of a southbound truck near Allentown. He says the impact caused an immediate explosion and fire.
He says the back half of the sedan separated from the wreckage and landed in the southbound lanes. Two people were ejected and landed in the roadway.
All five people in the car were pronounced dead. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
Police didn't say where the victims worked.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim says forensic testing could take several weeks.
