Sandylake , PA : Two motorists were killed after 18-vehicle pileup on Wednesday afternoon , January 7th 2015

Parts of Interstate 80 in western Pennsylvania have reopened after a series of snow-related crashes.

The same interstate was the scene of an 18-vehicle pileup that killed two motorists Wednesday afternoon when snow squalls created whiteout conditions.

On Friday morning, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation closed the eastbound lanes from the Ohio border to the New Castle exit about four miles into Pennsylvania. The westbound lanes were closed because of crashes on five-mile stretch between the Franklin exit at mile marker 29 to the Sandy Lake exit at mile marker 24.

Both sides of the highway were open by 10 a.m.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or fatalities.

PennDOT also dropped the speed limit to 45 mph on Interstates 79, 279, 376 and 579 in and around Pittsburgh until squalls stopped about 11 a.m.
