London, KY : Woman dies in single vehicle crash north of London on Saturday, December 17, 2016

A wet roadway is credited as a factor in a single vehicle accident that took the life of an East Bernstadt woman on Saturday.

The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. on Ky. 490, six miles north of London, when a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Joyce Ann Neeley of River Hill Road slid off the road, striking a guardrail and a tree before going over an embankment.

According to the press release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the truck was traveling south on the highway when it rounded a curve and slid on the slick road. The vehicle went over a guardrail and struck a tree, then came to rest over an embankment.

Both Neeley and Patton were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad and East Bernstadt Volunteer Fire Department.

Patton was flown from the scene by PHI helicopter to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Neeley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s office.

Funeral arrangements for Joyce Ann Nicely Patton are being conducted by Bowling Funeral Home.

The accident was investigated by Deputy Brandon Broughton, Deputy Charlie Johnson and Deputy Brad Mink.

Assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.

This is the county’s 14th traffic fatality of 2016 - and the second fatal accident within two days. A Laurel man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Blackwater Road.

Traffic related deaths occurring within Laurel County this year have now doubled the total deaths in 2015.
