Elyria, OH : 70-year-old bicyclist died after struck by a vehicle on a road in New Russia Township on Saturday afternoon, Oct 10, 2015
State troopers say a 70-year-old bicyclist died after he was struck by a vehicle that sped away from the scene this weekend in Lorain County, west of Cleveland.
The State Highway Patrol says the hit-and-run crash occurred late Saturday afternoon on a road in New Russia Township. The patrol says a witness reported that a dark-colored Ford vehicle hit the bicyclist from behind, slowed down and then sped away.
Trooper Jeff Boris told The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria (eh-LEER'-ee-uh) that there were no skid marks or other signs that the driver tried to stop before the crash.
The injured man was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The patrol identified him as an Oberlin resident, Charles Startup.
He had been wearing a helmet.
