Alexandria ,VA : 54 - Years old man was killed after his pickup collided with a semitrailer at Interstate 90 on Monday , January 19th 2015

A Black Hawk man died Monday when his pickup collided with a semitrailer on Interstate 90 east of Alexandria.

Derek Jay Miller, 54, was driving east on I-90 when he lost control of his 2005 GMC Canyon on the icy highway about two miles east of Alexandria, according to a press release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol. Miller's vehicle crossed through the median into the westbound traffic lanes.

Miller's vehicle collided with a 2009 Freightliner driven by Marcus Ray Wells, 53, of Fayette, Mo. Miller suffered fatal injuries when he was thrown from his vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Wells, who wore a seat belt, received minor injuries in the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
