CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA : 1 injured in crash involving overturned tractor-trailer on I-95 in Chesterfield on Thursday, 23rd May 2019

A multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer hauling wood chips on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield caused major delays on Thursday and sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries.

Virginia State Police says an investigation revealed that a sedan traveling north in the middle lane of I-95 when the driver, identified as 20-year-old Mahaley Cassady, veered into the right lane and lost control. The sedan struck a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 63-year-old Terese Donovan of Powhatan, Virginia.

In an attempt to avoid the crash, a tractor-trailer going north swerved to the left and hit the jersey wall. The tractor-trailer overturned, losing its load of wood chips, and fell partially on Donovan's Chevy Cruze.

All northbound lanes were closed near mile marker 67 for several hours as a result of the crash.
