Temple, TX : Two people died on May, Tuesday 2nd 2017
Two people died at about 3:11 p.m. Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident on State Highway 95 just south of where it becomes Northeast Loop 363, Temple Police spokeswoman Shawana Neely said.
The identities of the two killed were not released pending notification of relatives.
Bell County Justice of the Peace David Barfield pronounced the two individuals, a man and a woman, dead at 4:15 p.m.
Barfield sent the bodies for autopsies to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The collision was between a red Toyota sedan and a heavy truck carrying a load of scrap metal, Barfield said.
The driver of the truck had minor injuries but wasn’t transported to the hospital, Temple Fire & Rescue spokesman Thomas Pechal said.
It appeared that the truck, headed south, hit the car, which didn’t stop at a stop sign after turning off U.S. Highway 190, Neely said.
The badly mangled car ended up in an intersection with a frontage road. Emergency responders draped a blue plastic cover over part of the car.
The truck landed on its side in the grassy ditch, spilling its load of wire and scrap metal. The cab was damaged.
Responding to the accident were the Temple Police Department, Scott & White EMS and Temple Fire & Rescue.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of SH 95 were closed to traffic.
