Maryville, MO: Maryville woman seriously injured in Highway 71 wreck on Tuesday, July 21th 2015
A Maryville woman suffered serious injuries Tuesday afternoon when her vehicle was struck by a semi tractor trailer while trying to make a U-turn on U.S. Highway 71 just south of Maryville.Penny K. Antrim-Lawrence, 58, of Maryville, was traveling northbound in her 2011 Mercury Mariner when she attempted to make a U-turn south of the traffic light at the U.S. 71/Business Highway 71 intersection. In her attempt, her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side door by a 1999 Peterbilt semi driven by Ryan W. Stiens, 26, also of Maryville, which was behind her in the northbound lane.Both vehicles came to a rest in the southbound lane, which forced traffic to be diverted at the U.S. 71/Business 71 intersection.Antrim-Lawrence, who had to be cut out of her vehicle, which was totaled, by Maryville Public Safety firefighters using the jaws of life because the driver’s side door was so badly damaged, was transported by Nodaway County Ambulance to SSMHealth St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. Her passenger, 14-year-old Codi K. Antrim, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to St. Francis.Stiens wasn’t injured and drove his vehicle from the scene.
