ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI : Victim of fatal US-131 crash identified as Grand Rapids teen on Saturday, March 18th 2017
The Allegan County Sheriff's Office identified the 15-year-old killed in a crash on US-131 as Grand Rapids resident Alexis Danielle Brown-Johnson.
Kentwood resident Taliyah Zziwambazza, 19, and Bianca Monet Bland, 17, of Grand Rapids, were identified as two passengers who were injured.
A 20-year-old woman who was behind the wheel during the crash is under investigation for drunken driving. Her name will be released pending an arraignment this week.
The crash occurred around 2:40 a.m. Sunday on US-131, south of the Wayland exit. A vehicle heading south on US-131 lost control, sliding toward a ditch outside the roadway and through a fence before hitting the ditch hard enough to roll over and rest on 12th Street.According to a release by the Allegan County Sheriff's Office, Brown-Johnson was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle and killed. Bland suffered minor injuries and was transported to Metro Hospital for treatment. Neither were wearing seat belts.
Zziwambazza was riding in the front seat and wore a seat belt. She suffered minor injuries, according to police.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car, only identified as a 20-year-old Grand Rapids woman, is being investigated for possibly operating the vehicle while under the influence. A blood sample was obtained and will be sent to the Michigan State Police Lab for toxicology testing.
The driver, who also suffered minor injuries from the crash, was lodged at the Allegan County Correctional Facility awaiting a review of the information by the prosecutor's office. Police said Her name and charges, if issued, will be released early next week.
