Punta Gorda, FL : Two people injured in Punta Gorda dump truck crash near Happy Hollow Road on Friday afternoon, November 21, 2014
Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a dump truck in Punta Gorda Friday afternoon.
It happened on Bermont Road near Happy Hollow Road at around 1:34 p.m.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers tell us an SUV went to pass another vehicle and did not get back into the lane quick enough. The SUV collided with the front of a dump truck -- causing it to turn over.
"It took me a while to walk down there just to see if there way anyone else in the vehicle. She was the only one, and she was coherent. I'm amazed she wasn't killed instantly cause the whole front of the Jeep was collapsed on her," said witness George Art.
The woman driving the SUV was flown to the hospital on a trauma alert. The dump truck driver was also taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Bermont Road was completely blocked near Happy Hollow Road for several hours as crews cleaned up the scene, but has since been reopened. FHP is investigating the crash.
