Peach County, GA : Decatur man dies in 6-vehicle accident on I-75 in Byron on Sunday night, April 17, 2016

A six-vehicle accident that killed a Decatur man Sunday night closed two northbound lanes of Interstate 75 for several hours overnight near Byron.

About 9:45 p.m. Sunday, 22-year-old Kamil Panjwani suffered fatal injuries when his Toyota Prius was hit from behind and pushed into a guardrail at mile marker 149 near the Ga. 49 exit in Peach County, said Sgt. Eric Farris of the Byron Police Department.

Two other people were treated and released from the Medical Center, Navicent Health, in Macon, said Farris, a traffic investigator who is trying to sort out what led to the multi-vehicle accident near the overpass.

Traffic was merging to the left to avoid an upcoming construction zone when the accident happened, officials said.

The left and middle lanes were blocked until about 4 a.m. Monday.
