Louisville,KY : Nelson County coroner identifies victims of triple fatal crash on may, thursday 11th 2017
The Nelson County coroner says three people have been killed in a crash that closed a 10-mile stretch of the Bluegrass Parkway. That road is now reopen.
Nelson County Coroner Field Houghlin identified the deceased as a Harrodsburg couple, Elmer Douglas O’Dell, 72, who was the driver, of the car, and his wife, Vivian Delores O’Dell, 71 and their 3-year-old granddaughter, Kieren O’Dell. This was originally reported by the Kentucky Standard.
The cause of death for all three victims was listed as blunt force trauma.
Another granddaughter, Phoebe, was taken by Nelson County EMS to Flaget Memorial Hospital, then flown to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
“It’s a tragic situation when you have accidents that involve children,” Houghlin told the Standard. “It’s hard on the police, it’s hard on the coroner’s office, it’s hard on the people who were out there trying to extricate them. Your heart goes out to these people."
Police have not yet identified the driver of the truck.
The crash was reported at 11:24 a.m. near the KY 49 overpass. The crash involved a semi and a passenger vehicle. Video from Air 3 suggests the semi may have crossed the median and gone into the opposing lane.
