Bainbridge Island, Washington
A grandmother and one of her grandchildren were seriously injured when they were struck by a car in a parking lot Friday afternoon.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. at the Harborview Condos on Harborview Dr. SE in Bainbridge Island.
The grandmother was walking across the parking lot with her two grandchildren when an elderly man backed out of a carport and ran into them.
He struck the woman, pinning her under the car, and also hit her 3-year-old grandson. The granddaughter was unhurt.
A nearby construction crew helped fire and rescue teams lift the car off the 71-year-old woman, identified by the State Patrol as Katherine Dunn. She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The little boy was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver didn't see the woman and child. He has been cooperating and police don't believe he was impaired.
"I think, like any of us, he's probably having a hard time, if we had been in his shoes," said Sgt. Pete Stock with the Washington State Patrol..
Troopers are on scene investigating the crash.
