Salt Lake City, UT : American Fork man killed in crash at mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon on Tuesday, 25th October 2016
A 77-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision Tuesday morning near the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon.
According to Sgt. Todd Royce with the Utah Highway Patrol, a semi-trailer truck and a pickup truck collided head-on on U.S. Highway 6 near milepost 179, in the area known as Covered Bridge.
The driver of the pickup truck, Court Anderson of American Fork, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Royce said for an "unknown reason" the driver of the pickup truck drifted across the yellow line, colliding nearly head-on with the semi-trailer truck.
The semi-trailer truck caught fire due to the accident, though it was quickly extinguished.
According to UHP, U.S. Highway 6 was fully or partially closed until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, while traffic was rerouted through Nephi Canyon.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing and is examining why the pickup crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic
This is the second fatal accident in Spanish Fork Canyon this month.
On Oct. 2, Daniel Pike, 30, of Price was killed in a possible DUI-related accident.
Pike crossed the center line and collided with the driver's side of a semi-trailer.
