Bronx, NY : Woman critically injured, throw man from wheelchair when a taxi and sedan collided on Broadway and W. 103 St. in Manhattan on Sunday, April 10, 2016
Crashes in the Bronx and the Upper West Side on Sunday left a woman in critical condition and a man in a wheelchair injured.
Emergency responders had to pry off the door of a Lexus in Norwood at about 3 a.m. to rescue its 32-year-old driver, after she collided with a red Buick after taking a curve on the Mosholu Parkway by Webster Ave., police said.
Rescuers took her to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.
The Buick’s driver, whose age and sex were not available, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, and was in stable condition.
About 12 hours later, a man riding a motorized wheelchair was caught in the path of a colliding sedan and yellow cab on Broadway by W. 103rd St. in Manhattan. The horrific scene unfolded at about 3:15 p.m.
Witness Luis Rivera, 32, said the man in the wheelchair was crossing Broadway at W. 103rd St. when the yellow cab blew through a red light, striking the sedan, which had crept into the intersection to make a right turn.
“He speeded up, but then my light changed, and I didn’t think he was gonna keep going, so I went a little bit and I hit him,” said Jovani Dominguez, the sedan’s driver. He wouldn’t comment further.
The impact sent one of the vehicles careening into the man in the wheelchair.
“The cab just took the light,” Rivera said. “When the car hit the guy in the wheelchair, he flew into the air.”
The man remained conscious and asked for his sister, who lives nearby. She arrived, frantically asking about what had happened, Rivera said.
Police could provide no additional information about the crash Sunday night.
