Jacksonville,FL : Jacksonville teen killed when stolen SUV crash on July, Saturday 29th 2017

A Jacksonville teenager died in the crash of a stolen sport utility vehicle on the J. Turner Butler Boulevard exit ramp to Interstate 295 early Saturday.

Elijah Emanuel Swanson, 17, was ejected from the 2012 Volvo SUV that then crashed into a retention pond about 6:30 a.m. Found on the ground near the pond, he died at the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Highway Patrol confirmed the SUV had been stolen from the Riverside area either late Friday or early Saturday. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft, while the Highway Patrol investigates the crash.

The Volvo was traveling at a high speed when it got onto the exit ramp. The driver – identified as Swanson –lost control and the SUV spun around as it went off the roadway onto the grass shoulder and overturned ejecting him, according to the Highway Patrol.
