Newberg, OR : Bicyclist hit, killed in crash with SUV on North Valley Road near Dopp Road on Tuesday night, Sep 8, 2015

Two bicyclists were hit by a SUV Tuesday night, killing one of them and injuring the other, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office.

The crashed happened around 7 p.m. on North Valley Road near Dopp Road in rural Newberg adjacent to Ewing Young Elementary School.

The sheriff’s office said one bicyclist died at the scene and the other was flown by medical helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.

The driver of the SUV received a minor injury and is cooperating with investigators, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation is underway. The sheriff’s office said no names with be released until family members are notified.

The road will be closed for several hours, the sheriff’s office said.
