Kitsap County, WA : Two people killed, 5 injured in crash near Port Orchard on Sunday, January 3, 2016
A head-on collision in Kitsap County shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday evening left two men dead and sent five other people, including a 9-month-old baby, to the hospital, according to a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Deputy Scott Wilson said a Nissan Infiniti driven by a man in his 20s was traveling southbound in the 9500 block of Sidney Road near Port Orchard when it crossed the center lane and collided nearly head-on with a Nissan Maxima.
The force of the crash caused the Infiniti to leave the roadway, go over an embankment and catch fire, he said.
All of the occupants were removed from the car before it was fully engulfed, Wilson said, but the front-seat passenger, a 30-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and a female passenger in her mid-20s were taken to Tacoma General Hospital with critical injuries, police said.
The 21-year-old male front-seat passenger of the Maxima was also pronounced dead at the scene, Wilson said. The Maxima’s 23-year-old female driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were transported to area hospitals with critical injuries, he said.
A 9-month-old female child who was in the Maxima was taken to the hospital for evaluation, he said.
Wilson said it is not known why the Infiniti crossed the centerline or whether any form of driver impairment was involved in the collision.
