A Hazleton woman was treated at a local trauma center after her vehicle struck a church and street sign before sideswiping a vehicle and striking a railroad crossing signal along Church Street in the city Sunday afternoon, city police said.
Police said that a medical emergency caused Bethanne DeAngelo, 53, to lose control of a Mercedes and travel at a high rate of speed while heading south on Church Street, near Green Street, at about 1:31 p.m. Sunday.
DeAngelo’s vehicle struck the side of a church and a nearby street sign before sideswiping a Hyundai driven by 24-year-old Alisa Milnes, police said.
The Mercedes continued traveling south and came to rest after striking a steel pole for a railroad crossing signal, police said.
DeAngelo suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a local trauma center while Milnes refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
