AUSTIN, TX : Austin police officer crashes into bridge column near airport on Sunday, 3rd March 2019

An Austin police officer was taken to the hospital with "fairly minor injuries" after they crashed into a highway bridge column.

Police said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of FM 973 and State Highway 71 in southeast Austin. The officer was on their way to a call when the crash happened, and they weren't using the patrol car's lights or sirens.Austin-Travis County EMS said the officer was transported to South Austin Medical Center with serious injuries but they're not expected to be life-threatening.
