Juneau police say a 48-year-old man survived a car crash near the end of North Douglas Highway Saturday night, where he was forced to spend the night pinned inside his vehicle.
The man, whose name was not released, was found Sunday morning and extricated from his car by Capital City Fire/Rescue members. He was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
“The male was pinned in the vehicle and unable to get out,” the Juneau Police Department said in an information release Sunday afternoon. “He said he was very cold and had been there all night.”
According to the release, JPD received a phone call at 9 a.m. Sunday from one of the man’s family members, who reported him missing. The caller said the man was last seen at home around 9 p.m. Saturday, that his phone was not working and they were unable to locate him.
At about 9:40 a.m. Sunday, hikers near the end of North Douglas reporting hearing a man yelling for help. His vehicle was found about 100 feet off the road and in the trees. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
