Fatal crash leads to DWI arrest in Geismar
State troopers arrested a suspected drunken driver Wednesday on vehicular homicide and other counts after he crossed into the opposite lane of traffic on Cornerview Road in Ascension Parish and ran head-on into a motorcyclist.
Mark A. Boudreaux Jr., 45, of Gonzales, was thrown from his motorcycle around 7:30 p.m. and suffered fatal injuries, despite wearing a helmet, said Trooper Jared Sandifer, spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop A, in a news release Thursday.
Justin D. Juul, 25, of Gonzales, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup northbound on Cornerview, also known as La. 429, when his truck went off the road to the right north of La. 73, Sandifer said.
Juul over-corrected into the southbound lane and the path of Boudreaux’s oncoming 2011 Harley-Davidson, Sandifer said.
Juul suffered minor injuries, Sandifer said.
He said Juul took a breathalyzer test, and his blood-alcohol content was found to be above 0.08 percent. That’s the legal threshold for presumption of drunken driving.
In addition to vehicular homicide, Juul was booked into Ascension Parish Prison on counts of first-offense driving while intoxicated and careless operation.
